The black-white-sepia colour scheme of the works by Laxman Aelay effulge with an almost stone carved strength. The strong and stout men and women have a powerful presence on the surface. They at times seem to be engrossed in some sort of internal thought process and decision making state. The works titled ‘the river underneath’ unfold the innumerable traces of thoughts and emotions that trespass the human mind. The capacity of the mind to control iridescent emotions and complexes is a fascinating idea. While some of the figures seem to be coiled up in self -created restraints, the others with two minds about something strive hard to reach on a decision. Yet another one depicts a woman who dares to come out of the veil to embrace the world.
