New Delhi based Susanta Mandal (b 1965) studied at the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata and completed his Masters in Painting from the Benares Hindu University. His most recent solo show ‘It Doesn’t Bite’ was held at GALLERYSKE, Bengalooru (2007). His previous solo show ‘Assemblages’ was held at Art Heritage, New Delhi (1998).
He participated in ‘India Xianzai’, MOCA, Shanghai (2009); ‘Where in the World’, curated by the faculty and students of the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU at Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi (2008); ‘Still Moving Image’, curated by Deeksha Nath, Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi (2008); ‘Mechanisms of Motion’, curated by Marta Jakimowicz, Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi (2008); ‘…and Buddha smiled again’, Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage, New Delhi (2001) and ‘The Frame’, ‘Vis-à-vis’ Gallery, New Delhi (2000). Since 1993, Susanta has been a regular participant at ‘The Frame’ Group show, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. His work was shown at the 3rd Nanjing triennial ‘Reflective Asia’, China (2008). Susanta has participated in several residencies including Khoj Associate Residency and Britto International Artists’ Workshop, Bangladesh (2008).
