Course: Jamdani: Tradition & techniques
Workshop details: The workshop aims at understanding the stylistic development of Jamdani weaves in India especially in Bengal. The participants will be able to engage in intensive sessions of weaving during the workshop along with lectures and demonstration and presentations by the facilitator. The objective of the workshop is to understand the evolution of this traditional weaving technique and the geo-political influences through history that have affected the changes in the stylistic development across borders.
About the Facilitator: Banatanwi Dasmahapatra is an Associate Professor at Dept. of Design, Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan. She did her masters in textiles from Kala Bhavan in 2008. She completed her Ph.D in Exact Humanities from International Institute of Information and Technology, Hyderabad in 2020. Her interests include exploring concepts and ideas in Art Theory and Practice and the expansion and expressional and functional designs.
